Client Design Tool+Client Server — A Powerful Combination
The Client Design Tool is a critical, sophisticated component of Q*ADC that can be used by non-programmers to develop flexible, versatile mobile applications in multiple languages. Companies wishing to self-support Q*ADC can do so with this powerful tool. The Client Design Tool creates "smart" menus and screens that are unique to specific users and functions. Modern computer design maps software to business processes rather than forcing business processes to conform to rigid software design. A Visual Basic add-in, the Client Design Tool uses custom data collection controls and logic specific to mobile data collection. It creates mobile applications that compile to the Portable Client program, which runs on all industry-standard devices.
Client-Server Technology offers many benefits over Terminal Emulation technology, on which older mobile computing systems are typically based...
- Dynamic on and off-line operation. Many companies want to keep production flowing when their network is off-line... for scheduled backups, power outage, system upgrade, etc. Q*ADC’s off-line option stores transactions on the mobile device and uploads them sequentially when communication is restored.
- "On-the-fly" validation. Each data element in a transaction is validated prior to submitting the update.
- Client programs reside on the end device, minimizing the network traffic demanded by Terminal Emulation technology.
- Client programs can operate on many end-devices: handheld and vehicle-mounted computers, PDAs, PLCs, touchscreens, scales, RFID devices and smartphones.
- Q*ADC’s non-intrusive interface eliminates high-maintenance custom Progress coding. Q*ADC updates QAD via the application layer, automatically applying all business logic, triggers and customization.
- Q*ADC can operate on the same host, Windows or Unix, running QAD.
- Lower Total Cost of Ownership
